Botswana, a landlocked country in Southern Africa, has a landscape defined by the Kalahari Desert and the Okavango Delta, which becomes a lush animal habitat during the seasonal floods. The massive Central Kalahari Game Reserve, with its fossilized river valleys and undulating grasslands, is home to numerous animals including giraffes, cheetahs, hyenas and wild dogs.

Botswana’s home to a few of the most exclusive ecotourism sites on the planet, like the Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park. Less traveled than neighbouring countries like Kenya and Zimbabwe, it’s a haven for nature and wildlife. One of the most unique experiences is the Khama Rhino Sanctuary, with rhino-trekking alongside experienced rangers.

Botswana is following the guidelines to promote eco tourism in the tourism destinations and among them include:

  • Minimizing negative social, cultural and environmental impacts
  • Maximizing the involvement in, and the equitable distribution of economic benefits to, host communities.
  • Maximizing revenues for re-investment in conservation.
  • Educating both visitors and local people as to the importance of conserving natural and cultural resources and delivering a quality experience for tourists

The country has the UNESCO heritage site and among them include:

  • Tsodilo
  • Okavango Delta

Botswana has several national parks and tourism attractions highlights and these offers eco travelers several activities to experience on their holidays in Botswana.

  • Chobe National Park
  • Makgadikgadi Pans National Park
  • Gcwihaba Caves
  • Moremi Game Reserve
  • Tswapong Hills
