Gorilla Trekking Tours and Lake Bunyonyi

The gorilla trekking tours involves an encounter with the famous mountain gorillas before going to Lake Bunyonyi relaxation, canoeing, island hopping, nature and community walks. You must have a valid gorilla permit which is a pass to see mountain gorillas. The costs of gorilla permit in Uganda vary depending on one’s nationality. A single gorilla permit in Uganda costs $700 for foreign non-residents, $600 foreign residents and 250,000 for East African residents. You can also choose to go the gorilla habituation experience which takes four hours while watching them in the jungles.

Eight people are allowed to see one gorilla family for an hour. The allocation of gorilla groups is done on the actual day of trekking depending on the sector. Each sector has a briefing pint where travelers gather for briefing and gorilla family allocation. Regarding age limit, travelers below 15 years are not allowed to take part in gorilla trekking.

After gorilla trekking in Bwindi, you will head for one of the most beautiful lakes in Uganda. Lake Bunyonyi dotted with 29 Islands. It is surrounded by on all sides by steep hills and forest. Lake Bunyonyi is the second deepest in Africa and is excellent for relaxation, swimming, canoeing and nature walks. One can also visit the local Batwa people or go biking. Lake Bunyonyi is a very popular destination for relaxation after visiting Bwindi or as a stopping point for resting during long safaris in Uganda.

Arrive at Lake Bunyonyi found in Kabale which is the second deepest lake in Africa and a great place for birders. You will be welcomed by the sweet sounds of the birds. You will go for a canoe trip on the lake whereby you will be able to see various birds, communities, land forms such as the islands (around 29 islands are in the lake). Take as much photographs as you can. After the canoe, have lunch and in the evening go for a community/nature walk through the Batwa and Abaheesi communities. Go back to lodge and relax as you plan for your journey back to Kampala the next day.
