Rwanda Gorilla and Lake Kivu Holiday

The Rwanda safari combines the thrill of gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park with the relaxation of Lake Kivu, offering a unique African adventure with cultural insights and wildlife encounters. There is only about 1063 mountain gorillas remaining in the world and Rwanda is one of the only three countries including Rwanda, Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo where you can see them in their natural habitat in the Virunga mountains.

This will help you to learn about the history of the country from the colonial periods through to the present time.

You will then go for gorilla trekking in Volcanoes and visit to IbyI'wacu cultural centre. You will track one of the habituated gorilla groups beginning with a briefing on the rules of gorilla trekking before setting out with the guides to search for the mountain gorillas in the forest. You will be assigned a group depending on your level of fitness. Spend one hour with the apes learning their behaviour as well as taking photos of your choice.

You will return to the hotel for lunch and in afternoon be taken to the IbyI'wacu cultural village to learn about the Kinyarwanda culture displayed through folk songs, dances, storytelling and drama. The community offers more than eight different dances where all women, men, kids and youths participate as well as singing. You will again have another day in volcanoes national park for the golden monkey trekking which takes place at the same time like gorillas. Very early after break fast, you will arrive at the headquarters for briefing with your trekking permit of $100 and in small groups of not more than eight people, you will go in search for these stubborn creatures. You can spend one hour with the monkeys once you find them. The endangered species are very active creatures and jump from tree to tree which is really interesting and a little difficult to photograph!

You will leave volcanoes heading to lake Kivu for a holiday offering you a relaxing break after a gorilla trekking adventure, with its pristine beaches, warm waters, and opportunities for water sports like canoeing and boating.

explore the coffee plantation at the Igoboka Cooperative, a lifeline for numerous Rwandan families. Your visit contributes directly to the well-being of these families. Participate in picking coffee beans and proceed to the Gashashi washing station, where the beans undergo a meticulous 20-step washing process.

Experience the art of roasting coffee beans over an open fire, infusing the beans with rich Flavors. Then indulge in the thrilling moment of tasting the freshly roasted coffee. You will still have lunch here as you interact with the representatives of the coffee cooperative.

Take a visit to Imbabazi orphanage. A visit to Imbabazi is a must. See the beautifully kept English gardens and lawns that surround Roz’s cottage, enjoying the beautiful views of Karisimbi, Mikeno and Nyiragongo volcanoes and experience the vibrant and colourful Intore traditional dancers.

Come and learn more about Roz’s amazing life at Imbabazi, the former orphanage she founded in 1994 and learn more about some of the current education and conservation projects. After all your travel specifications, you will return back to Kigali international airport for your flight back home.
