Today we take a look at the various reptiles you planning to spot on your Uganda holiday.
There are several reptiles found in Uganda and among them include:
Crocodiles: This is the biggest reptile in Uganda and you can easily spot them on your eco tours in Uganda visiting the River Nile - Jinja, Murchison Falls National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park. while on your boating launch along the River Nile in Jinja and Murchison Falls National Park you can spot the crocodile at the shores of the River. More so you can spot them on your cruise at the boat cruise along Kazinga channel and along Boat ride on Lake Mburo in Lake Mburo National Park. The crocodiles do feed on fish and also prey on mammals which they can easily attack at the shores of water bodies.
Snakes: There are many types of snakes in Uganda and dangerous and you will also spot pythons and all these are much spotted on your eco tours in Uganda done in most of Uganda forest, wetlands and national parks and reserves.
Rock Python: This is the largest snake in Africa. It is over 5 meters in length and has gold on black mottled kind of skin. They are not venomous and they wrap their bodies around the prey swallowing it whole. After that they can go off and nap for a as two months. They feed on large rodents, small antelopes and could kill a small child. The best place to find the rock python is a bat cave in Maramagambo forest in Queen Elizabeth National Park and you can easily experience the watching on your nature walk in the forest.
- Puff Adder: This is one of the most common snakes in Uganda although not often seen by visitors in Uganda. It is much found in the Savannah Parks, and mostly feeds on rodents but will strike at a human if it feels threatened.Black Mambas: This very poisonous snakes and it has killed very many people in Uganda and other African regions. They move and react faster than humans and can easily attack you in case you happen to move in it directions. These are commonly found in the Eastern Uganda.
Green Mambas: This is not much aggressive as the black mambas but still poisonous. Rarely seen but much found in tree branches, bushes and shrubs.
Gabon Viper: This is the largest African Viper very long over 2 meters, has a heavy build, black and brown skin pattern with some gold on it. A perfect mix for camouflage in the rain forests of Uganda.
Boom Slang: This is a tree snake which is non-fangs, and not aggressive and yet is very toxic and there is no fatal report in Uganda from this snake.
Green Tree Snake: A non-venomous snake found in trees
Mole Snake: This snake is up to 2 meters in long and is found in the Savannah Parks and feeds on moles as the name suggests and other rodents.
Egg Eating Snakes: These snakes feed on bird eggs as their name. They swallow the egg whole and rush back the shell some time later. Among other reptiles include the following:
