Jinja Tours Adventures: White Water Rafting
White water Rafting and Bungee jumping are among the top and most wanted adventure tours mostly done in Uganda on one of the biggest rivers in Africa named River Nile and it is believed to be sourcing from Uganda. It was always our dream to do both White-water Rafting and Bungee Jumping in Africa not until we noticed it that you can better experience it in Uganda “The Pearl of Africa”. Uganda is located in the Eastern part of the African Continent bordering Kenya in the East, South Sudan in the North, and Democratic Republic of Congo in the West, Rwanda and Tanzania in the South.
On our adventure tour in Uganda we arrived in at Entebbe airport and we were welcomed by the tour consultant and driver from Nature adventure Uganda, it was really massive meeting these guys at Entebbe airport picked and transferred us up to Kampala City in a well and stable Safari jeep for our dinner and Overnight stay.
Next day early in the morning after our breakfast very excited our driver checked in for us, we embarked the Safari Jeep and checked out for the Kampala city tour where the local cultural site of Buganda Kingdom named “The Kasubi Tombs” was our first visiting.
These tombs are located in the Suburbs of Kampala City in a place called Kasubi, it is a culturally nice looking place belonging to the Royal King of Buganda and at the same time the burial place for the late kings of the Buganda Kingdom. Aside the main house there is other houses which are meant to be used by the helpers of the king depending on their strategic categories. The King of Buganda Kingdom is called locally “Kabaka”.
Saying bye bye to Kasubi Tombs we proceeded up to the Uganda Martyrs Shrines in Namugongo where the Uganda Martyrs were killed from by Kabaka Mwanga of the Buganda kingdom after refusing to go by his rules, we had a tour around the shrines plus visiting cultural markets inside and then from there we proceeded to the Uganda Museum in Kamwokya where most of the Uganda’s cultural items are kept.
From the Museum we went for Lunch and after this we started our journey from Kampala to Jinja along Kampala- Jinja highway with en-route amazing city viewing until we reached Lugazi town full of sugar cane plantations along the way, proceeding with the journey we reached Mabira Forest one of Uganda’s biggest forests which welcomed us with the ever-green cover. En-route stopover in Mabira Forest exposed us to its rain forest characterized with big species of trees plus sighting of different species of Birds.
Proceeding from Mabira Forest we reached the bridge where the great River Nile crosses the road and its amazing sighting the flowing waters of the Nile until we proceeded up to jinja town for our dinner and Overnight stay after a long drive from Kampala.
Next day early in the Morning after breakfast we prepared for the tactical Bungee Jump on the waters of River Nile, Bungee Jumping involves jumping from high point which is the starting point tied on a rope to the lower point which most times is a pool of water of a crossing river or lake.
There are different sizes of ropes grouped which are used according to different strategic categories of weights. But if you are suspected to be with diseases like blood pressure, heart attacks, breathing problems and more plus pregnant women you are not allowed to go for the jump. The minimum age for Bungee Jumping is 13 years of age. Seeing my colleagues doing the Jumping I first feared to engage but thank God that later managed to go for it and jumped downwards to the waters of River Nile being controlled by the operator on the rope up to the rescue boat already waiting to offload you from the rope.
After the experience we went for our lunch & resting plus refreshment at the hotel of residence after a drive around Jinja town.
Next day early morning after our breakfast very excitedly prepared for our next activity which was white water Rafting on the Waters of River Nile, this white water rafting involves sailing on the waters by use of inflatable boats in favour of flowing waters of the River Nile.
This activity is mostly done on rivers due to its influential flowing waters. It is about a one-hour drive from Jinja to the starting point where rafting starts from in Kangulumira, some of the equipment’s used for rafting include helmets, Paddles, and life jackets so you are advised not to sit on the boat if you are missing some.
This experience is usually started in the morning and a full day experience is finished in the evening which costs $145 USD per person, half day experience costs $125 USD per person. While on the waters sailing always a rescue team is following to rescue in case there is any capsized of the boat. It was massive sitting on the waters of the Nile and after the experience we reversed back to our hotel of residence for dinner and overnight. It was really very hard for us to say bye bye to Jinja because of its fascinating chilling places but we had to keep time for our return flight back home and saying bye bye to Uganda “The Pearl of Africa”.
