Fly to Kihihi for a mountain gorilla safari in Uganda Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is located in the right corner of south western Uganda, sharing borders with Rwanda and DR-Congo on the edge of the Great Rift Valley, Bwindi is one of the biggest impenetrable forest of East Africa and a home to 480 of world’s mountain gorillas also known as the best forest for bird watching safari destination in Africa with 214 bird species, many types of species of trees and different types butterflies species.

By flying to Bwindi you save on the long drive of 9hours from Entebbe or Kampala to Bwindi.

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park can be done in any of its 4 trekking regions including Buhoma sector where 3 gorilla families reside: Mubare, Habinyanja and Rushegura. Ruhija sector has also got 3 gorilla families including Oruzogo, Bitukura and Kyaguriro. Rushaga sector has five gorilla families including Mishaya, Nshongi, Bweza, Busingye and Kahungye. Lastly Nkuringo sector with one gorilla family named Nkuringo. All of these gorilla families are habituated.

Add on top of that the two gorilla group’s under-going gorilla Habituation in the southern area of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and only 80 visitors per day can spend a memorable t   are being habituated in the time with a gorilla family. The gorilla trekking permit costs 600 USD per person and allows a maximum of only 1 hour to be stay with the gorillas while a Gorilla Habituation trekking permit costs 1500 USD per person and allows only 4 visitors and 4 hours with a gorilla family on all day treks.

Early in the morning drop off at Entebbe International Airport for a domestic flight to Western Uganda. From Kihihi Airstrip you will be transferred by road for about 1 hour to the home of the endangered mountain gorillas. Check in at the lodge and enjoy a delicious lunch. Mahogany Springs is the perfect base from which to begin you Gorilla tracking or Bird watching adventures. The Gorillas have been to know to the visit the lodge and coming face to face with one of these peaceful creatures is an indescribable experience.

This morning we rise early for morning breakfast and make our way towards Bwindi Impenetrable forest famous for briefing by your guides before venturing into the dense forest for mountain gorilla tracking. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to many endangered species including roughly half of the world's remaining mountain gorillas. Visits are strictly controlled to minimize the possibility of disturbance or transmission of disease to the animals.

Trekking gorillas in the dense forest can sometimes be wet, muddy and uncomfortable. The terrain is by no means easy either, so it can be pretty strenuous and often humid, but the sheer thrill in coming across a habituated group of gorillas, dominated by a great male silver back, more than outweighs any difficulty. You need to be prepared and fit enough to walk up to 7 hours - up and down hill.

Keep alert as you may hear the young ones making noises as they swing from one tree to another, and when you finally come face to face with them, you will be fascinated by the sheer size of the silver back the dominant male. We can usually get very close to the mountain gorillas, which are placid and gentle, and watching their movements is like seeing a mirror image of you. Once a trekking group encounters one of the gorilla families, your visit with the gorillas will last one unforgettable hour of photography. Afterwards retire to your lodge and soak up the incredible views.

It is an unusual feeling sitting there within this thick rain forest aware that you are with a couple of the very few surviving mountain gorillas. In case you have some extra energy you will have a guided walk in the afternoon along the Munyanga River trail where you will see the beautiful waterfalls, a diversity of vegetation covers several birds plus an array of colourful butterflies. The Bwindi forest is a sanctuary for primatologists as well as ornithologists.

Another option is having a guided community walk with the Batwa inhabitants living close to this forest. Head back to your accommodation for dinner, overnight Mahogany Springs.

Following breakfast proceed to Lake Mburo National Park, home to the impalas which are small animals concentrated around Lake Mburo of all the national Parks in Uganda. Actually the capital city of Uganda – Kampala was named after this stunning small animal. Along the way you will be able to see the spectacular Kigezi highlands plus some other uncultivated scenery.

On arrival in the park, you will have a game drive to see some other wildlife in Uganda besides the gorillas you saw in Bwindi. Wildlife in this park includes: zebras, warthogs, buffaloes, klipspringers, elands, Oribi as well as water bucks. Dinner and overnight at Mantana tented camp; Lake Mburo Camp is a classic tented camp in the grand safari tradition providing the only luxury accommodations inside the Lake Mburo National Park.

A small and intimate luxury camp, in a beautiful setting with a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of plains game, it is an ideal place to enjoy the African wilderness and to start or finish a safari to Uganda. The area around the lodge and tents is host to many resident zebra, warthogs, water buck, impala, buffalo, civet cats and prolific bird life.

Begin the day with heavy breakfast, game drive then take a boat trip on Lake Mburo, and there you will have an opportunity to even see some smaller lakes such as Lake Kazuma and Lake Bwa. Marvel at the giant hippos, buffaloes plus crocodiles just in the shallows of the water. There are several stunning birds to see such as the Abyssinian ground horn bill, saddle bill storks and the beautiful crested crane among others.

In the afternoon you will return back to Kampala. Stop at the Uganda Equator to take pictures and visit the craft shops to purchase souvenirs to remind of the great holiday you had in Uganda. Reach Kampala in the late afternoon, check-in to your hotel and in case your flight is that day your transfer to Entebbe airport.
