Gorilla Tours in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park has got a number of interesting features which cannot be left out with as one goes for tours to Uganda; this is found in the south western corner of Uganda bordering DR. Congo and Rwanda for which they share the rare and the endangered mountain gorillas. This is the only park in Uganda where gold meets silver and one may wonder how this one is possible but it becomes true when you pay a visit to these amusing primates.

The Nyakagezi gorilla group is still the dominant gorilla group which has stayed here for over a decade and it has been tracked and still tracked by the curious visitor due to its expendable amusing characters, this can’t be discussed unless you visit the park for a greater experience. I can just jump and i forget to talk about Nature Adventure Africa safaris limited that did what it takes to enable us have a safe tracking journey from the pearl of Africa.

Indeed it was the best in all, we partnered with them and if am to remember before we used to chat with Moses a tour consultant in this company who gave us all the information on how we were to move throughout our four days tour to Mgahinga national park, he reached an extent of having sleepless nights since our time zones are too different and this indicated his highest level of commitment to the clients.

We also decided to work with him, we sent the money for the purchase of the Nyakagezi permits and the hotel bookings plus his commission which was favourable and affordable, we were urged to get a yellow fever immunization cards, visas and to move with long sleeved shirts plus trousers and gumboots, repellents and a favourable wild clothes colours. On our first day, we were picked and taken to Imperial Botanical Beach Hotel where we spent the night since we reached in the evening.

From here on tour second day we were taken to the west via Masaka - Mbarara road to Kisoro and we rested our case at Bunyonyi Overland Resort, we couldn’t track since it was too late. On the third day, we were taken to the park to meet our guides who took us through guidance discussions on how we could behave in the presence of the gorillas, these were armed and this guaranteed our security for emergency purposes.

This was our great experience through the thick rain forest, compared to other parks; gorillas of Mgahinga are easily seen in their natural habitants since they leave near the three conical volcanic hills of mount Gahinga, Sabyinyo and Muhavura that ranges from Uganda to the neighbouring Congo, this made us excited since on our track we passed via a village composed of the local Batwa who are the main settlers within the area.

These were too short, hahahah!!, which my colleagues termed as being “Dwarfed”, anyway since we didn’t pay for their visit but the Batwa experience can be added if budgeted for after having the gorilla experience too, we did find difficulties in tracking since we got them too closer as we were passing through a troupe of the endangered golden monkeys that were spread all over the areas with their shouting characters.

In the presence of the gorillas, we admired getting closer to them but we were restricted to 25m away from them and the reason that we were given was that they had babies and in this case the giant male silverback gets suspicious knowing that we had come for its family hence charging quickly, we saw them dividing pieces of food they had gotten form elsewhere as the female ones were busy breast feeding the young ones.

After this one hour experience, we were told to leave since our time had got done, we signed out of the park and we went to the lodge for a rest as we were left wordless from the experience we had from Mgahinga mountain gorillas. On the fourth day we went back to Kampala to catch up our flight that was scheduled at 8pm.
